Kaanapali (pronounced "conapolly") is a 3 mile stretch of beach on Maui's west side. There is something for everyone. Want to see fish you have only seen in books? One of the best Hawaiian snorkeling spots is at Black Rock. I am not the most adventurous vacationer but surprised myself with how far I floated (I rented a belt life preserver). It was so much fun! If you want to get a little work out in you can kayak like Jeff and Marisa did. If you want to shop, Whaler's Village is within walking distance we all spent a lot of time there especially at Haagen Dazs!
One of the great things about vacationing in Hawaii is many of the resorts have condos versus standard hotel rooms. Even better is the condos have many of the same amenities as a hotel; housekeeping, linens, free soap :), and a concierge. Our condo was gorgeous. I can still see the wall to wall sliding glass doors overlooking the ocean, awe.... Anyways, condos are great for family vacations because you have a lot more room and best of all a kitchen. Yes, we actually cooked while vacationing. It's a great way to save money.
Though we loved where we stayed (http://www.the-whaler-kaanapali.com/index.html) we are looking at other condos on Kaanapali Beach within walking distance to Whaler's Village. Ok, lets be honest within walking distance to ice cream.
So far the frontrunner is The Kaanapali Alii (http://www.kaanapalialii.com/). Let us know what you think. We are waiting to hear back from AAA to see if their rates are better than what we have found by renting directly from the condo owner.
Aloha Ohana!
